Features December 2021

Alan T. Micallef – NASCAR

It seemed a match made in racing heaven, NASCAR absorbing the International Speedway Corporation in a $2 billion transaction in October 2019. “A historic moment for our sport,” Chairman and CEO Jim France proclaimed, one that delisted ISC from Nasdaq and put it and its 13 tracks under NASCAR’s private ownership. Likely, the transaction paved […]

Amy Madison Luo – Digital Partner

When Amy Madison Luo was at Boston University School of Law, she was walking into Major League Baseball stadiums—think Wrigley Field or Fenway Park—to ensure every announcement broadcast to the stands, radios and even television was properly licensed. That was her role as a domestic and international licensing law student. Her interests shifted, however, when […]

Anne Meyer – Frontier Communications

This has been a welcoming year for Anne Meyer, who along with others at Frontier Communications has onboarded new executive leaders and a new board of directors, making her a veteran of sorts. Meyer, the senior vice president, associate general counsel and corporate secretary, has enjoyed the positive changes in the company’s philosophy, hiring and […]

Brodie Swartz – OMERS

His 20-year legal career almost evenly divided between the first half in private practice and the rest with OMERS, the pension plan for Ontario municipal employees, Brodie Swartz describes why he finds the latter responsibility more compelling. “It may sound trite to say, but each day you get up to work for over 500,000 people […]

Cari Toneck – Methodist Hospital of Southern California

As an emergency room nurse during the 1992 Los Angeles riots, Cari Toneck remembers a city engulfed in anger. After four white police officers were acquitted of nearly beating a Black man to death, L.A.’s long-simmering racial tensions finally erupted. For six days and nights, buildings burned, dozens of people lost their lives and a […]

Christian Ehrbar – Berkshire Grey

Whether a package needs to arrive at a retail shop or your front door, it needs to be pulled from the shelves of a warehouse or distribution center before being shipped. Berkshire Grey provides robotic equipment that can easily and quickly pick, pack and sort orders—without the need for workers. BG also integrates artificial intelligence […]

Courtney Welton – The Allstate Corp.

It’s been a ubiquitous brand image and slogan for more than 70 years—the open palms assuring Allstate customers they’re in good hands. The image and slogan endure, but the company says it’s also embracing a modern approach, expanding its traditional home and auto products to include to electronic devices, roadside repairs and online identity. For […]

David Tschantz – Christian Healthcare Ministries

So, God works in strange and mysterious ways? David Tschantz is one that believes so. A long-time lawyer in the insurance business, Tschantz was looking for a career shift a couple years ago. Yet, well into the latter half of his professional life, he needed some direction. “I believe God wanted me to do something […]

Dharmi Tailor – Roivant Sciences

Dharmi Tailor is multilingual, but not in the traditional sense: she speaks scientist and inventor. As partner and head of legal for Roivant—a biotechnology and healthcare company—and with a bachelor’s degree in public health policy and management, she understands and can interpret the highly technical speak of researchers and clinicians. That’s allowed her to do […]

Donna Bunch Coaxum – OSI Group

For Donna Bunch Coaxum, food isn’t just something that goes on her dinner table; it’s her career. Her first job was as business counsel for Kraft Food Inc., where she stayed from the early 1990s to 2001. Following that job, she became senior counsel for OSI Group LLC, an over $7 billion global consumer food […]

I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
