Bruce Gluckman – Mediacom Communications Corp.

The unreturnable age of 70 is on next year’s calendar and with it, the likely end of his days as an in-house lawyer. But Bruce Gluckman won’t be ready for the rocking chair. As a University of Chicago undergrad a half-century ago, he caught the acting bug and has yet to fully satisfy it. So, […]

Glenn Edwards – Trane Technologies

Est. reading time: 5 mins

In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, many schools, hospitals and offices installed better HVAC systems designed to improve air quality. Trane Technologies, which manufactures these systems, worked quickly to expedite orders. Then, when vaccines were produced and distributed, the company assisted in keeping them cold. “It was all hands on deck as we […]

Brad Cain – NaphCare, Inc.

Est. reading time: 4 mins

As the top lawyer for a niche healthcare provider, Brad Cain says he’s relying on years of experience to help the company navigate—and thrive—in challenging times. A member of the NaphCare legal department for nearly 15 years and executive vice president and chief legal officer since 2017, Cain says his team has assisted with sealing […]

Chelsea Provencher — Metergy Solutions

Est. reading time: 5 mins

When the pandemic put up hurdles, some companies simply jumped higher. Take, for example, Canada’s Metergy Solutions. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Metergy continued installing meters downstream from the supply of electricity, water or gas, in order to measure and bill the consumption of individual units in condos, apartments, homes and businesses. The business […]

Maria-Gabriela Lopez Varela – Chanel

Est. reading time: 4 mins

It’s the role she had long been preparing for, even if it wasn’t always apparent to Maria-Gabriela Lopez Varela. “Some people at a young age know just what they want in life but that wasn’t me,” she says. Since December 2018, she’s been senior counsel in Latin America for the French-owned luxury fashion house, Chanel, […]

Adel Sander – Ascend Performance Materials

Est. reading time: 4 mins

At the height of the pandemic in 2020, N95 masks—recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for protection against COVID-19—were rapidly selling out and vaccines were frustratingly far on the horizon. Making matters worse, counterfeit personal protection equipment was flooding the market as demand far outpaced supply. According to Adel Sander, Ascend […]

Sachin Lele – Republic Brands

Est. reading time: 4 mins

The hemp is grown organically in southern France on farms that have been family-owned for generations. The acacia gum comes from trees harvested in Kenya. Both are ingredients for the rolling papers Republic Brands produces at a plant in Perpignan, France, which it’s owned for more than a century. In sum, it’s a “plant to […]

Nehal M. Siddiqui – EY

Est. reading time: 4 mins

It’s not every day that companies face an inflection point. So reflects Nehal Siddiqui on the past two years where institutions such as her employer, Ernst & Young LLP (EY), have stepped up and undertook initiatives aimed at advancing social justice and equity. On the social justice front, EY’s efforts intensified in the wake of […]

Michael McDonald – bluebird bio Inc.

Est. reading time: 5 mins

The biotech’s mission being gene therapy, it couldn’t be sidetracked by what had been a bigger agenda. Thus, last year, bluebird bio—and that is lowercase—spun off its oncology division so it could better focus on bringing treatments for so-called SGDs, or rare and severe genetic diseases. Though there was nothing acrimonious about the split with […]

Stephanie J. Gilliard – Colonial Downs Group LLC

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Most people don’t decide what they want to be when they’re 10. But when a friend of Stephanie J. Gilliard said she wanted to become an attorney, Gilliard decided that’s what she wanted to do, too, even though she didn’t know what a career in law entailed. There were no lawyers in her family, either, […]

The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
