Vanguard is a digital publication that showcases the incredible diversity of the modern in-house counsel, highlighting the philosophies, strategies and initiatives of attorneys from around the world.
From contracts to compliance, data privacy to intellectual property, M&A to HR, the responsibilities of today’s GCs and CLOs have never been greater—and we capture that challenge. The stakes have never been higher, either, and Vanguard takes a deep dive into these complex and ever-evolving roles, giving you, the reader, an inside look at how some of the world’s biggest companies navigate shifting legal terrain.
We also reveal the people behind the profession: what inspired them to pursue law; their biggest career accomplishments; how they view their role within the broader organization; their favorite vacation spots (when they get a vacation); and more.
Since launching in 2016, Vanguard Legal Magazine (a publication of Trueline, a Maine digital marketing firm) has profiled in-house counsel at some of the world’s most recognizable companies. GE, Samsung, Heineken, Pfizer, MetLife, Dell, MasterCard and Honeywell—the list goes on.
Among the questions we asked—and answered—by our seasoned writers: How can general counsels and CLOs transform their teams into bona-fide business partners? What technologies are making legal departments more efficient? Can a more strategic use of outside counsel help a company better understand foreign regulatory regimes? What does it mean to have a “seat at the table?”
The legal world is changing. These are the men and women who are making that change happen.
Unlike at traditional publications, we see the journalistic process as a truly collaborative one. We don’t just want to tell your story; we want to tell it right.
Our content coordinators are trained to identify those in the profession who have a story to tell, whether it’s a veteran GC in the U.S. who’s spent 30 years at the same company or a young attorney in Latin America pursuing the family trade.
The companies we profile don’t pay a cent. Instead, we reach out to their trusted partners and vendors, who purchase ads to support the story. We assign the story to one of our veteran in-house writers—a team whose bylines include the New York Times, ESPN, the Boston Herald and Sports Illustrated.
Once completed, the story is sent to the story subject, to ensure that the information is accurate. After that, our art department uses the story and accompanying photos to create an amazing magazine spread.
In addition to a complimentary issue and PDF brochure, features will have their stories posted permanently on Vanguard’s website. When people google your name and company, this will be one of the first things to come up—no small thing at a time when having a good web presence is just as important as a solid resume.
