Alison Hinds-Pearl – Revlon Consumer Products

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Compliance at Revlon is anything but cosmetic for Alison Hinds-Pearl. In fact, it’s her career. As the company’s chief compliance officer and assistant general counsel since May 2021, Hinds-Pearl leads a team of four legal professionals who collaborate with HR throughout the company to manage compliance issues globally. This includes conducting internal investigations, advising on […]

Ashley Kuruvilla – Woodland Direct

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Growing up, Ashley Kuruvilla only knew of one type of lawyer: the typical litigators portrayed on television. She watched those TV attorneys working the courtroom, withstanding fast-moving counterarguments from opposing counsel and pointed questions from the judge. But Kuruvilla couldn’t see herself in that adversarial role. However, she realized toward the end of her college […]

Andre Drighetti – Sympla

Est. reading time: 4 mins

The shows must go on, especially after the lengthy intermission the entertainment sector endured during COVID-19. But it’s mostly back to normal with resumed demand for tickets to all kinds of celebratory events. Sympla is the largest “experience ecosystem” in Brazil and when Andre Drighetti spoke with Vanguard in April, it was all about moving […]

Adam Gutkin – Open Text Corporation

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Adam Gutkin enjoys a challenge, but after leading a dozen-plus acquisitions totaling more than $5 billion over the last six years, it takes a lot to faze him. So when his employer, OpenText, a global information management provider headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, decided to acquire Micro Focus, a company that delivers enterprise software for digital […]

Andy Hess – Village Caregiving

Est. reading time: 5 mins

It’s almost stretching coast to coast, Village Caregiving just having been licensed to provide personal at-home care in Maryland. Contiguously, the operation stretches state-by-state from there to Idaho, which still leaves it short of the Pacific shore. In due time, the executive team expects to get there. “There is a lot of political support for […]

Anne Sherwood – Xcel Energy

Est. reading time: 5 mins

The Rocky Mountain State’s high on a carbon-free future. In 2019 Colorado’s lawmakers mandated that by 2030, utilities reduce emissions by 80 percent compared to 2005 levels. Eighty percent of electricity must then come from such clean energies as wind, solar and batteries with Old King Coal dethroned as the primary power source. For Xcel […]

Arran Lal – Fluor Canada Limited, an affiliate of Fluor Corporation

Est. reading time: 5 mins

On special occasions where presents are given, lawyers probably ask for and receive tools of the trade—suits, dress shirts, fancy shoes and ties. Arran Lal has different items on his wish list. “I have a muddy vehicle, hard hat, and usually filthy safety boots,” says Lal. “I work in a trailer at construction sites.” Lal […]

Aaron Mandel – QBE

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Aaron Mandel started his studies at Penn State University expecting to become a meteorologist, but fate—and the difficulties of fluid dynamics—intervened to steer him toward a different career. One semester, he took a class titled “Philosophy of Law” and was fascinated with the coursework. Students had to prepare a research memo on a given issue, […]

Arnold Dodderer – Sunoco LP

Est. reading time: 5 mins

It’s quite a different corporate animal from 15 years ago. So muses Arnold Dodderer about the more recent evolution of what’s become the Sunoco Limited Partnership. The company that’s now the nation’s largest independent fuel distributor was in constant flux long before Dodderer joined its legal staff in 2007. However, the most consequential changes seem […]

As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
