This integration eliminates inefficiencies, ensuring that records, phone systems, and billing are streamlined into a single, user-friendly experience. With a strong presence in dental, optometry, and veterinary fields, Weave has begun expanding its reach into broader medical markets, setting itself apart with cutting-edge payment solutions and strategic partnerships.
Erin Goodsell | Weave | Chief Legal Officer
At the heart of this transformation is Erin Goodsell, chief legal officer, whose expertise has been instrumental in navigating Weave’s rapid growth and operational evolution. Goodsell excels at helping companies in the $100 million range break through their adolescent stage by optimizing processes, unlocking revenue opportunities, and forging partnerships that accelerate success.
Goodsell’s impact at Weave has been nothing short of transformative. From building a powerhouse legal team to establishing legal as a core strategic asset, her leadership has helped the company secure enterprise-wide contracts and navigate the complexities of regulatory environments in telecommunications, healthcare, and payments. Her hands-on approach with large-scale enterprise agreements ensures these critical contracts align with Weave’s growth strategy. These agreements, often complex and requiring meticulous attention to compliance, are foundational to Weave’s expansion into new markets and its ability to serve diverse clients.
Strategic partnerships fueling platform adoption
Partnerships have also been a key focus of Goodsell’s work. She has unlocked new growth opportunities by negotiating agreements with organizations that align with Weave’s suite of products. These partnerships enhance Weave’s offerings and enable vendors to integrate Weave into their business models, driving broader adoption of the platform. Goodsell’s ability to secure these partnerships has been a driving force behind Weave’s success in entering new markets, particularly as it ventures further into payment solutions and continues to build on its strong foothold in the dental, optometry, and veterinary spaces.
In addition to her focus on strategic growth, Goodsell has built the company’s contracting processes to support Weave’s expansion into the midmarket. She and her team revamped subscription agreements, making engaging with Weave’s platform easier for larger businesses. Goodsell’s team also played a central role in launching a partner marketplace in collaboration with the partnerships team, further solidifying Weave’s position as a leader in the healthcare technology space.
One of Goodsell’s most notable achievements has been assembling a small but dynamic legal team. With just four members, including herself, the team punches well above its weight, contributing to major strategic initiatives while maintaining a collaborative and forward-thinking culture. Goodsell intentionally hires the right people and prioritizes cultural fit and a deep understanding of the business. She fosters a sense of ownership and autonomy within the team, ensuring they are connected to the company’s objectives and given opportunities to grow and tackle new challenges.
Shaping the future of healthcare technology
Goodsell’s ability to inspire and develop her team matches her love for cross-functional collaboration. She thrives on working with engineers, marketers, and sales teams to find creative solutions to complex problems. For Goodsell, the best part of her job is leveraging a broad toolkit to address challenges, whether through engineering fixes, marketing campaigns, or operational improvements. This collaborative approach underscores her philosophy that legal should be a business enabler, not a roadblock.
As a forward-thinking leader, Goodsell also embraces the power of AI to enhance efficiency. She uses AI tools to streamline tasks such as drafting and revising agreements, saving valuable time and allowing her to focus on higher-level strategy. This innovative mindset ensures Weave stays ahead of the curve, particularly in an industry that demands constant adaptation to new technologies and regulatory requirements.
Despite her many successes, Goodsell acknowledges the challenges inherent in her role. Navigating a highly regulated environment often requires balancing legal obligations with business objectives, particularly when those regulations feel misaligned with the company’s goals. These challenges, though difficult, have only strengthened her resolve to drive innovation and growth at Weave. Looking ahead, Goodsell is focused on expanding Weave’s partnership models and improving its ability to serve midmarket clients. As the company continues to evolve, her leadership will remain vital in shaping its future.
From litigator to leader
Goodsell’s journey into law began with her education, where she earned a J.D. from BYU Law School, graduating summa cum laude and ranking first in her class. Before law school, she earned a B.A. in History with a minor in English from Georgetown University, developing the critical thinking skills to serve her throughout her career.
After law school, Goodsell began her career as a litigator, where she enjoyed an extensive range of legal areas. Over time, she realized she wanted to retain a broader, industry-wide practice rather than specialize in a narrower area of litigation. This insight led her to transition into an in-house counsel role, where she could blend her legal expertise with a deeper understanding of business operations and strategic impact.
Her first in-house role was at Qualtrics, where her leadership and legal acumen helped her rise to the position of associate general counsel. In this role, she provided strategic guidance on privacy, intellectual property, litigation, and compliance, managing complex legal matters on a global scale and participating in Qualtrics’ journey from $190 million to over one billion in revenue. The experience she gained at Qualtrics prepared her for her current role at Weave, where she continues to thrive in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
Outside of her career, Goodsell is a devoted mother of four. She enjoys spending time with her family, exploring new cultures, and embracing outdoor adventures. Her ability to balance her demanding professional life with personal fulfillment reflects her dedication to her career and family.
