With a degree in international relations from the University of Pennsylvania and a JD from Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, she spent over a decade in private practice before joining the company in 2020. She became General Counsel in early 2024, stepping into the role just as AI regulation and ethical questions were beginning to accelerate worldwide. That timing has given her both a front-row seat and an active role in shaping the next chapter of responsible AI development.

Security and compliance are central to this expansion. The company’s FedRAMP High certification, one of the most rigorous designations in the federal space, positions it to serve government agencies that handle sensitive citizen data, such as the Department of Veterans Affairs and state governments processing SNAP benefits. For Millender, certifications like FedRAMP High aren’t just checkboxes—they signal a level of diligence and protection that Hyperscience applies across its client base.
“Meeting the needs of customers in highly regulated sectors is the best way to build optimal outcomes,” she explains.

Machines learning.” This “human-in-the-loop” foundation ensures the company’s AI remains trustworthy, accurate, and adaptable—a balance Millender and her legal team reinforce daily as they help operationalize innovation responsibly.
Shaping the ethics of AI
Perhaps Millender’s most influential contribution is her leadership of Hyperscience’s AI Ethics Governance Committee. This cross-functional body addresses issues of data privacy, bias, transparency, and accountability—topics that are rapidly becoming front and center in both industry and regulatory discussions.
“We are an AI-native company, so we’ve thought about AI from the beginning,” Millender says. The committee’s work reflects that early foresight. By establishing principles and governance frameworks before regulations solidify, Hyperscience is future-proofing its technology and building trust with customers who are increasingly cautious about AI adoption.
Millender emphasizes that not all AI is created equal. European regulators, for example, have begun categorizing AI by risk level. At one end of the spectrum, generative tools like Large Language Models (LLMs) used to write emails present a relatively low risk; at the other, AI applications in defense or nuclear systems pose existential concerns. Hyperscience’s platform, focused on document automation, would likely fall into a lower-risk category under this framework. Still, Millender insists that transparency and consumer education are critical.
“We can future-proof things by being as transparent as possible about how our products work,” she says.
Her committee also takes generational attitudes into account. Younger cohorts like Gen Z and Gen Alpha, she observes, are more wary of technology than many assume.
“There will be an inevitable backlash or at least a market correction,” she predicts, suggesting that companies that overpromise or misuse AI will face consequences. Hyperscience’s emphasis on thoughtful, transparent design positions it well for this coming shift in expectations.
Millender sees the legal profession itself being transformed by AI. She points out that lawyers rarely get the chance to help shape an entirely new field of law in real time.
“We’re writing the rules as we go,” she reflects. “Nobody knows exactly what they’re doing, but we’re all in the same boat together.”
For her, this isn’t a source of anxiety—it’s what makes this moment so exciting.
Scaling with trust & foresight
Hyperscience’s continued success will depend not only on technology but also on the trust it builds with clients, regulators, and the public. Millender’s dual focus—operational excellence and ethical leadership—provides that foundation.
Internally, she has crafted policies for the responsible use of generative AI tools like Google Gemini.
“Confidentiality is key,” she stresses, describing how her team evaluates which information can safely be entered into AI systems and how they monitor for accuracy.
At the same time, she embraces the efficiencies these tools bring, from summarizing contracts to streamlining compliance reviews. The goal is not to resist AI but to wield it wisely.
Externally, her legal strategies enable Hyperscience to expand into new markets with confidence. In industries like logistics, insurance, and government services—where inefficiency costs both time and money—Hyperscience provides measurable impact. By ensuring that contracts, data protections, and compliance frameworks are airtight, Millender helps the company deliver innovation without exposing clients to undue risk.
Her own career path—from project finance at a major law firm to overseeing the legal architecture of an AI-native company—underscores the broader transformation underway. What once looked like infrastructure in the form of roads, bridges, and energy grids now looks like digital infrastructure built on data and machine learning.
“This is the infrastructure of the future,” Millender says, and for her, ensuring that it’s built on fairness, equity, and transparency is a personal mission as much as a professional one.
