As associate general counsel at Convergent Energy and Power, she’s found a role that harmonizes her legal expertise with her passion for tangible, meaningful change.

“When I started as a trainee lawyer in London, my dream was to put my legal skills to use in a field I am passionate about: fighting climate change and building a reliable and resilient energy landscape for the next generation,” Letitia says. “I was drawn in-house by the prospect of chaperoning projects through their many life stages and then to Convergent by the passionate, creative and kind people.”

“I’ve always been drawn to building something you can actually see and touch,” she says. “That’s why project finance and execution have always been my passion. The reward comes not just in closing a deal but seeing the project through as it takes on a life of its own through development and into operations.”

Letitia joined Convergent about 18 months ago, just as the company entered a transformative growth phase. Since her arrival, the legal team has grown from four to eleven members, and the company has expanded from 100 to 130 employees. Letitia was one of the early hires during this rapid expansion, and her influence has been instrumental in shaping the legal department’s role within the broader business.

“There’s a startup mentality here that is constantly evolving and a lot of brilliant people who leave any ego at the door and are curious and delighted to be learning – it’s exciting to be part of that process,” she says.

One of the defining aspects of her role is her involvement in the project finance and execution side of the business. With her background as a junior lawyer in London and Tokyo and experience in infrastructure projects, Letitia found that the tangible aspect of energy development was where she thrived.

Letitia is at the forefront of driving projects to completion, whether negotiating contracts with battery suppliers or structuring and securing financing for a portfolio of commercial and industrial clients.

“It’s about making all the pieces fit together—construction schedules, procurement logistics, financing—so that we can deliver bankable, value-generating projects,” she explains.

The importance of diversity

For Letitia, DEI isn’t just a checkbox or a trendy talking point; it’s a fundamental principle guiding her career. Convergent Energy and Power has embraced a proactive stance on inclusion, and Letitia feels that commitment daily.

“DEI is fundamentally important to me. I wouldn’t work somewhere that didn’t prioritize it or recognize its importance,” she states emphatically.

One of the challenges in the renewable energy sector is fostering inclusivity while scaling rapidly. As Convergent’s legal team grew from four to eleven members, Letitia prioritized building a culture that values diverse perspectives and backgrounds.

“We’re not just hiring for skill or prior experience —we’re looking for people who bring different viewpoints and can challenge the way we think,” she says.

Mentorship and professional development are also high on her list of priorities. Letitia has benefited from great mentors throughout her career and considers it her responsibility to pay it forward.

“I’ve had mentors who changed my perspective on life and career, and I want to do the same for others,” she says. Letitia encourages her team to ask questions and take initiative, fostering a culture where curiosity is celebrated.

Convergent’s startup mentality allows for a dynamic and collaborative environment where people are encouraged to think beyond their immediate roles. As someone who values integration, Letitia has worked hard to break down silos and ensure that legal functions as a true business partner.

“We’re not just here to rubber-stamp decisions or solve problems,” she says. “We’re strategic partners in making things happen and overcoming obstacles.”

The tangible impact of renewable energy

Convergent’s mission to lead in battery storage technology resonates deeply with Letitia’s commitment to combatting climate change. Having previously worked at a 150-year-old company steeped in tradition, she finds Convergent’s dynamic, forward-thinking approach invigorating.

“It’s massively refreshing to be somewhere that’s not just innovating but actively pushing for the renewable energy transition,” she shares.

At the heart of Convergent’s strategy is the “we both win” model, whereby Convergent installs batteries on customer properties, reducing their peak usage and electricity costs and sharing in the financial savings; meanwhile, the customer does not have to deal with owning or operating the asset. For utility-scale projects, larger installations can enhance grid reliability during periods of high demand.

Letitia sees the transformative potential of these projects, both for clients and the environment.

“Battery storage isn’t just a technical solution—it’s an enabler of the clean energy transition,” she says. While the industry faces challenges, from fluctuating tariffs to unpredictable political climates, Letitia remains optimistic that the business case for energy storage is undeniable.

Balancing purpose and passion

Where Letitia lives and her lifestyle has been heavily shaped by her husband’s career as a Navy pilot, which has primarily dictated where they live. Letitia has been fortunate to work for open-minded employers who are willing to accommodate her need for remote work long before COVID made it the norm.

“We spent two years in the central valley of California, not exactly a place known for a Big Law presence,” she recalls. “Then, my husband transferred to the Reno Air National Guard, which, conveniently, brought us to the area we are now delighted to call home.”

Though Letitia’s career is demanding, she finds balance through outdoor pursuits in Lake Tahoe, a short drive from where she lives and works remotely. An avid skier, mountain biker, and hiker, she embraces the natural beauty around her.

“I love the outdoors—it’s my way of staying grounded and energized,” she explains. Her two dogs are often her companions on the trails, and the crisp mountain air gives her the mental clarity to tackle the most complex legal challenges.

Letitia believes the secret to remote work is staying connected and keeping a routine, just as you would in an office environment.

“Whether it’s a full video call or the kind of chit-chat you’d have in the break-out room but on MS Teams instead, staying connected builds trust and keeps everyone aligned and engaged,” she says.

“I never thought I’d end up in the U.S. at the leading edge of the energy transition, but saying yes to unexpected opportunities has led me to where I am now,” she says.
