Michael Pangburn – Thor Motor Coach

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Ask Michael Pangburn if he foresaw a career as a lawyer, and his answer will likely surprise you. “I wanted to be an FBI agent and serve my country like my father did in World War II,” he says. “After law school, I took the exam but didn’t hear from the bureau for about two […]

Michael Hercz – Sentynl Therapeutics Inc.

Est. reading time: 5 mins

While the rarest disease might afflict fewer than several hundred people a year, there are around 7,000 rare diseases. That’s more than enough, Michael Hercz laments, for one in 50 babies to be stricken by a malady for which a biopharmaceutical company has little commercial incentive to research and develop a remedy. But some companies, […]

Marie Batz Martin – Coherent Corporation

Est. reading time: 4 mins

When Marie Batz Martin thought about what she wanted to be when she grew up, it wasn’t a lawyer—which is exactly why she didn’t go to law school until she was nearly half a decade into her career. “I always knew I wanted to work at a large corporation, preferably on a global scale, and […]

Mason Hills – Resource Capital Funds

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Although an accomplished commercial and corporate attorney in his native Australia, Mason Hills held off on taking an American bar exam after his employer moved him from Perth to Denver in 2012. In Colorado, Hills was to lead one of the Resource Capital Funds investment teams. He’d have plenty to keep busy, new capital being […]

Maryann K. Aiello – Salerno Brokerage Corp.

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Somewhere in New York State, there’s a police chief who finally saw the light on harassment. Having learned his lesson the easy way, he should be counting his blessings.  It seems he couldn’t fathom the possibility of sexual harassment claims lodged by women against men, but before such shortsightedness got him into trouble, Salerno Brokerage […]

Mark Bach – Navistar Inc.

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Should Mark Bach take in a Chicago Bears game, he’d be reminded of his exclusive professional status. Not that he’s one to feel special, but at last count there were fewer than 51,000 patent practitioners in the United States, and he and the others would fall more than 10,000 short of Soldier Field’s capacity. “The […]

Matt Kalinowski – Computershare Corporate Trust

Est. reading time: 4 mins

In the world of financial services, corporate trust entities frequently sit among a variety of players, such as securities issuers, investors, sponsors and loan servicers. Yet, when trouble arises—think investments not paying out as anticipated—the impacted companies often single out the corporate trustee as the target of choice. That’s when Matt Kalinowski steps in. As […]

Mosmi Bhakta – PM Hotel Group

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Mosmi Bhakta grew up around the hospitality sector—her parents owned and operated hotels when she was a child—but it wasn’t until she was in her twenties and working as a catering coordinator at an events center in California that she realized she could marry her background in hospitality with her interest in law.  “I kind […]

Mark Vallone – IBM

Est. reading time: 5 mins

In the summer of 2014, the Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling that reshaped the patent landscape in the U.S. The case, Alice Corp v. CLS Bank International, involved patents for a computer system and program code designed to combat the risk that only one party in a financial transaction would follow through. Alice Corporation […]

As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
