As the director, legal and data protection officer at Dentalcorp, Vincent Rocheleau stands at the intersection of law, innovation, and leadership, helping one of Canada’s fastest-growing healthcare companies not only acquire clinics and stay compliant but push the boundaries of what’s possible in oral care. Two years into his tenure with the Toronto-based organization, Rocheleau has already built a reputation as a thoughtful legal strategist, a proactive team leader, and a pragmatic voice.
Vincent Rocheleau | Dentalcorp | Director, Legal & Data Protection Officer
Dentalcorp is Canada’s largest network of dental practices, acquiring and partnering with top-performing clinics nationwide to provide dentists with access to best-in-class support, resources, and technology. The company aims to advance patient care while delivering meaningful careers and healthy communities nationwide.
That kind of scale—rapid, data-driven, and grounded in healthcare—requires a legal team that doesn’t just keep pace but sets the tone. For Rocheleau, that means blending legal skills and speed with leadership and humility, building trust across teams, and constantly learning from those around him.
Rocheleau’s path to Dentalcorp wasn’t linear—and that’s part of what makes him so effective. Originally from Tecumseh, Ontario, he joined Dentalcorp after cutting his teeth with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General’s Crown Civil Law Office and honing his skills at Blaney McMurtry and Fasken.
“Private practice gave me the fundamentals,” he explains. “But I wanted to see the full picture, to work more directly with business stakeholders and be part of real-time decision-making.”
He joined Dentalcorp in 2023 and, by early 2025, had stepped into a director-level role that included overseeing labor and employment matters and the responsibilities of a data protection officer. The transition wasn’t just about a new title—it was about redefining what it meant to be a lawyer in a fast-moving, high-pressure environment.
Mastering in-house Legal While Leading Others
Despite only coming into his sixth year of practice, Rocheleau now leads a small but impactful legal team that includes a junior lawyer, a contracts manager, and a legal analyst. The company’s larger legal department includes specialists in corporate, labor and employment, healthcare, real estate, and privacy—enabling Dentalcorp to handle most of its legal needs in-house.
“We’re fortunate. We bring our specialists inside, which helps us respond quickly and keep things aligned,” he notes.
Still, leading others while still learning himself has been a balancing act.
“Leadership wasn’t something I was born with,” he says. “It’s something I’m building—intentionally delivering the leadership the team deserves.”
That means being self-aware about his limitations, open to feedback, and deeply committed to growth.
“There are things I don’t know—and that’s okay. The key is knowing what you don’t know and ensuring you always do good work,” he says.
To foster growth, Rocheleau and his leadership team have implemented customized training programs that cater to their legal team’s specific roles and needs. These programs include defined milestones and responsibilities, ensuring junior lawyers have the tools and experience necessary to succeed.
“Lawyers learn by osmosis, but they also need structure,” he says. “It’s up to leaders to be intentional with that process.”
A hands-on approach
Protecting information is paramount at a company that handles vast amounts of patient data across hundreds of locations. As a data protection officer, Rocheleau works alongside a dedicated privacy team and Dentalcorp’s IT division to ensure the organization’s privacy framework is proactive and responsive. While he admits that privacy wasn’t his core legal background—he comes from the labor and employment side—he has fully embraced the challenge.
“There’s been a huge shift over the last five to ten years—lawyers are being asked to know more about privacy,” he says. “But not everyone is an expert. That’s why we’ve brought in the right people and built a solid privacy program.”
One of the defining features of Dentalcorp’s approach to privacy is speed. With sophisticated systems, the legal and IT teams can respond immediately to any suspicious activity, whether it’s potential data siphoning or breaches.
This need for rapid response and collaboration is part of why Rocheleau and his peers work on-site at least four days a week.
“Our executives were upfront about the need for cohesion,” he says. “They didn’t just give orders to return to the office—they renovated it before bringing everyone back—and led by example. We’re building something here, and collaboration is core to that.”
Mentorship, Mission, and Meaning
For Rocheleau, being a legal leader isn’t just about providing legal advice—it’s about people.
“We’re in the relationship business,” he says. “Yes, we use the law as a tool, but what we really do is manage relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and one another.”
That belief informs not only how he leads his team, but also how he gives back. Rocheleau actively participates in pro bono work, including with Pro Bono Ontario’s education law program and the Royal Ontario Museum.
“There are lines that shouldn’t be crossed at any job,” he says. “But there are also lines you should cross—boundaries of comfort, of experience—to ensure you continue to develop your skills.”
Outside of work, Rocheleau maintains strong bonds with his peers and mentors. His relationship with his immediate supervisor and many of his team members extends beyond the boardroom.
“We’re not clones of each other—our styles are different—but that’s a strength. If we were the same, we’d have blind spots.”
Looking ahead, Rocheleau sees exciting potential in integrating technology and law.
“It would be silly not to consider how these tools can benefit us, especially in areas like data analysis and contract review,” he says.
As Dentalcorp continues its aggressive expansion across Canada, Vincent Rocheleau will ensure the company does so ethically, legally, and intelligently. He’s not afraid to lead—or to follow when necessary. He’s still learning, still growing—but already playing a critical role in shaping the future of one of the country’s most ambitious healthcare companies.
“I’m proud of what I’ve done and the company I work for,” he says. “But I’m even more excited about what comes next.”
