Features Associate General Counsels

Leslie Nettleford Freeman – AARP

Est. reading time: 4 mins

In AARP’s Office of the General Counsel, Leslie Nettleford Freeman and her team scour the internet to make sure no one’s handing out fake AARP discounts. They also confirm whether companies that claim to be working with AARP are actually authorized to do so, and they send cease-and-desist letters to websites inappropriately using the AARP […]

Chris Jensen – City Colleges of Chicago

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Both his parents were attorneys, so Chris Jensen was expected to follow the same path. He even got into law school during his senior year of college. But when it came time to accept the offer, something didn’t feel right. So instead, he found a job at the county clerk’s office in his hometown of […]

Lisa Schroeder and Suzanne Flaton-Origenes – BASF

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Chemists think like chemists. So says Lisa Schroeder, adding “that’s what brings out the best of those who work in BASF’s laboratories.” But in an increasingly digital world, chemists may not appreciate opportunities to secure patent protection in the digital space. This being a rather nascent area, Schroeder aids their cause as associate general counsel […]

David Gohlke – Air Liquide

Est. reading time: 5 mins

So what differentiates David Gohlke from the 1.3 million or so other lawyers in the Land of the Free? While it could be his ability to grasp industrial project construction and advanced air separation technologies for a producer of industrial gases, Gohlke is often asked about something more esoteric. Such as: “So you’re that Skadden […]

William M. “Marty” Ferguson – Mr. Cooper

Est. reading time: 3 mins

Since the beginning of the pandemic, residential foreclosures across the county have largely been on hold due to government edicts, but as William “Marty” Ferguson states, things are picking up at “warp speed.” That’s keeping him busy. For nearly eight years, Ferguson has worked for Mr. Cooper, the third largest loan servicer in the United […]

Dan Lev – Intellia Therapeutics

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Ten years ago, genome editing was still science fiction—and often not the good kind. From rogue dinosaurs in the “Jurassic Park” series to a cancer treatment that became a zombie apocalypse in “I Am Legend,” it was the tool of villains and mad scientists. Not so in reality, and not so today. “It amazes me […]

Sheedeh Moayery – Barnes & Noble

Est. reading time: 5 mins

A good tale takes time to develop. In the case of Sheedeh Moayery, it’s taken a decade and a half to help write the story of Barnes & Noble, the latest chapter being the acquisition of B&N by Elliot Advisors Limited in 2019. That was just a few years after Elliot had acquired the largest […]

Natalie Swanson – Riot Games

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Natalie Swanson is a huge fan of Rioters—the title held by all employees of Riot Games. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, the video game developer and publisher made a name in the gaming world with its debut title League of Legends. Today, Riot’s titles set in the League of Legends universe reach over 180 million […]

Kendra Stevens – EverCommerce

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Piecing together a 50-piece puzzle is simple enough that most five-year-olds can do it—unless the pieces are separate organizations of a large, complicated company like EverCommerce. Established in 2016, EverCommerce grew so rapidly that by 2019 it had not only reached the industry-coveted unicorn status—a private company valued at $1 billion—but far surpassed that with […]

Nathalie Mercier-Filteau – WSP

Est. reading time: 4 mins

A global company may have its roots in one location, but its branches can be widespread. Nathalie Mercier-Filteau discovered this when she joined the Canadian operations for GENIVAR in January 2013, just a few months after it purchased Williams Sale Partnership. A year later, the company changed its name to WSP. Despite the international design, […]

The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
