Cindy Buhr – PrimeLending

Est. reading time: 4 mins

When many of its 1,100 loan officers asked for a new mortgage refinancing product for customers, the executives at PrimeLending listened. After all, with interest rates and inflation on the rise, homebuying was on the decline. In 2022, the leading national retail mortgage lender and refinancer introduced Rate Redo for customers purchasing a loan between […]

Matt Pierce – Suntec Concrete

Est. reading time: 5 mins

While Matt Pierce knew he wanted to be a lawyer from the time he was a senior in high school, it was pure serendipity that brought him to his current role as general counsel at Suntec Concrete. “I didn’t actually look for this; the position fell into my lap,” he says. “And that’s the only […]

If there’s a thread that runs through all of Daryl Dorsey’s work as director and senior attorney for American Airlines—managing international labor, employment and pension issues; participating in diversity, equity and inclusion subcommittees; and mentoring colleagues of color—it’s his commitment to making people feel welcomed. For Dorsey, it’s all about creating what he calls a […]

Justin Wheeler – Cinemark Theatres

Est. reading time: 4 mins

Growing up in Garland, Texas, Justin Wheeler loved it when his parents would drive him and his friends to the 20-screen Cinemark theater across town in Plano—the nicest cineplex in the area. Noticing this, Wheeler’s father encouraged his son to do something he enjoyed. While acting wasn’t for Wheeler, the young man eventually realized a […]

Drew Loomis – Aqua Terra Water Management

Est. reading time: 5 mins

Drilling into a wall to hang a television is fairly straightforward. Piercing into the Earth past layers of sedimentary rock, shale and organic matter that have been around since the Cretaceous period and the Paleozoic era is far more complicated. Large machinery, some using drill bits taller than the long-necked dinosaurs that used to roam […]

Brady Long – Transocean

Est. reading time: 5 mins

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, about 80 percent of the world’s oceans have yet to be explored. But Transocean is more familiar with the other 20 percent than most other companies around the world. So says Brady Long, the company’s executive vice president and general counsel. After all, it’s his job to […]

He’s in the twilight of a distinguished career, one that’s merged his twin passions of law and Christian faith. But one gets the sense that, come March 2024, Harold R. Loftin Jr. won’t really retire, just pass his position of the past decade to GuideStone’s next chief legal boss and begin a new chapter of […]

Lara Hajjar Ayoub – Universal Weather and Aviation

By the time a business jet reaches a cruising altitude of 41,000 feet, many passengers are counting down to two things: landing at their destinations and the arrival of their in-flight catering. While Lara Hajjar Ayoub has little control over how quickly the pilots go “wheels down,” she does play a major role in appeasing […]

Fred Wolgel – Texas United Management

Est. reading time: 5 mins

How times have changed. When Fred Wolgel became Texas United Management’s first in-house lawyer in 2006, the chief executive officer told him there might not be enough to keep him busy at the family-owned business in Houston. “It soon became the standard punch line,” the good-natured Wolgel now says with a chuckle. “Once I got […]

I was honored to be the subject of an article. I enjoy reading Vanguard articles and seeing how other attorneys got to their positions and see their jobs. It's also interesting to see how different law firms partner with the subjects of the articles.
– Henry Marquard, in-house counsel, Stanley Consultants Inc.
The piece highlighting my company, Bob Baker Enterprises, Inc., came out fabulous. Our company is in the new and used car sales and service industry. Everyone was great to work with and extremely professional. They produced a high-quality product and have provided expert assistance and guidance post-production of the article.
– Wade Poulson, General Counsel, Bob Baker Enterprises Inc.
As promised in advance, my feature in Vanguard has increased my visibility within the profession and prompted more than a few people I have not communicated with recently to reconnect. One of the Italian law firms I have used in the past is now in the process of interviewing me for an article on their website and tweeting out the feature story. Activity and the number of people connecting with me on LinkedIn has soared, which is great. The Vanguard writers and editorial staff were great to work with—highly professional and made the effort to make the experience both fun and rewarding (they were also respectful of the time pressures and demands all lawyers face). I was very pleased with the experience and the final outcome. Needless to say, I have been very pleased. All in all working with Vanguard has been a very positive experience which generated good publicity for both Shawcor and myself. My sincere thanks.
– Tim Hutzul, General Counsel, ShawCor Ltd.
It was a great honor to be featured in Vanguard Law. Working with every member of the team, from the initial interview with Erin Clark, through production with Victor Martins, writing the article with Taryn Plumb and creating the final content with Dave Gushee, was a true pleasure. Everyone was very professional, enthusiastic and supportive, and their creative approach and positive attitude clearly came through in the final product.
– Kevin C. Rakowski, Senior Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance with Radian Group Inc.
